Short Story Contest :)

There was some interest in my suggestion to turn yesterday's story prompt into a contest, so here goes. Some of the details will be worked out over the next few days, but here is where we are starting.

Write a story 5,000 words or less that starts with these words:

She missed her train

You may add punctuation (quotes to make it dialog, a question mark, that sort of thing) but may not change the words themselves.
Submit your story as a .doc or .rtf file attached to an email and sent to me at rhonda@jofigure.com
Use standard manuscript format ( http://www.shunn.net/format/story.html )
Do not post it in the body of your email.
All submissions should be in by midnight (MST) February 22nd
I will strip all identifying information from the entries and send them out to the judges.
I will not be a judge.

I will round up some judges and a prize or two and post that information as I have it. In the meantime, I hope lots of people give this a shot and have fun with it.

Silly questions from Cade ;-)

How do you want this formatted?
Double or single spaced?
any particular font?
paragraphs indented or not?
A line gap between each paragraph or not?
**** for scene breaks? Or a # or a line break?

right now he's formatting as per my default settings of paragraph indent, times new roman size 12, double space, no gaps between paragraphs and **** scene breaks

I won't be the one reading them, and we won't need to format them for publication (which is why Niteblade has the rules it does), so let's go with standard manuscript formatting (http://www.shunn.net/format/story.html). I edited the entry to reflect that, and thanks for the question to remind me to do that :)

sent mine off to you. Can you let me know when it arrives? My email is being stupid atm - either that or cyberspace is very hungry when it comes to emails lol.

It has arrived :)

Because I'm hoping to enter myself I haven't actually opened the file, but I think we can safely assume it will be fine. If not, I'll let you know when I -do- open it. :)

Hi, I've just emailed you my entry, but I stupidly didn't put my livejournal id on the document (it's in the email). Hope this will be ok.
